If you live in Thailand, or Thailand have visited before, then this form of transport is nothing new for you. Long-tail boats are a common form of water transport in Thailand. Can be seen in Thailand, whether in Bangkok or on the islands, you are always present. Did you know that Bangkok used to as the Venice of the East was known? Channels led throughout the city. Today, most channels were filled and replaced with streets. The long, slender Longtail Boats (Called Rua Hang Yao) were then used to navigate through the channels. The longtail boat takes its name from the long rod behind the boat which is coupled to the motor. At the end of this rod is a propeller attached to the boat is driven forward. Fishermen report that the motors are from old cars, and rebuilt for water transport. An engine costs about $ 1,000. They are also often used as water taxis, and cruise tourists through the area, and can carry between 6-8 people.
